What are dental CT and SimPlant®?
What to expect during a dental CT

What are dental CT and SimPlant ®?

CT (computed tomography, CT scan or CAT scan) is an imaging technology which uses x-ray beams and computers to form detailed cross-sectional images of an area of anatomy. Most commonly used in a medical setting, CT has proved to be a valuable tool for viewing anatomy not visualized with traditional x-rays.

CT, when used by your dental professional, will provide important information about your bone density and the structure of your jaw.

If your dental provider has requested a SimPlant® study, your CT will be combined with SimPlant®’s leading-edge technology providing highly-accurate mapping capabilities to aid in the placement of dental implants. SimPlant® makes it possible for your provider to travel virtually (via computer) through the bone in search of the best and most accurate location for the proposed implant.

What to expect during a dental CT

Please expect that your time with the CT technologist will be approximately 15 minutes. This exam is performed while you lie flat on the CT table with your head in a cushioned support. You will be asked to bite on a tongue depressor that separates the upper and lower teeth. Your technologist will ask you to remain still for approximately one minute while the scan is performed. The scanner will not touch you and you will not feel the x-rays.
