Interventional Radiology
Risk and Interventional Procedures

Though interventional procedures are considered to be minimally invasive, all interventional procedures involve introduction of a needle(s) and / or catheters into the body, which present a standard though low risk for bleeding at the puncture site and infection.

Vascular procedures also present additional risks. Many interventional procedures involve the administration of contrast agents (dye) to illuminate vessels or organs with imaging technologies. Contrast reactions are uncommon, but possible as with any medication.

All patients should inform the technologist of any previous reaction to contrast material(s) prior to procedure. If you have further questions about the risks associated with a specific procedure, please contact the hospital department where your procedure is scheduled and ask to speak to an interventional radiologist.
