Interventional Radiology
What Is Interventional Radiology?

Interventional radiology is a medical subspecialty dedicated to the practice of imaging guided procedures for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Assisted by specially trained technologists and guided by imaging, the interventional radiologist (physician specialist) diagnoses and treats conditions using tiny instruments. Interventional procedures can provide alternatives to surgery. Patients generally find interventional procedures more tolerable than surgery. Interventional procedures are less invasive involving very small incisions (less pain, less scarring). Many interventional procedures require only a local anesthetic. However, conscious / IV sedation is sometimes necessary. Interventional procedures may have fewer complications than surgery, require shorter hospital stays and less nursing care. These procedures also usually cost less than their surgical alternatives.

TRA interventional radiologists perform scheduled procedures and share 24-hour emergency call 7 days a week at the hospitals we serve.
