Important Information about your Ultrasound Exam
If your exam requires a full bladder, please follow these instructions. Finish drinking two eight-ounce glasses of water (16 ounces total) one hour prior to your appointment time. Do not empty your bladder prior to the exam. This will enable the ultrasonographer to obtain clearer images.

The following links have more information and preparation for specific exams.

Obstetrical Ultrasound

What Is Ultrasound, and What Is the Exam Like?

Ultrasound imaging utilizes ultra-high frequency sound waves (2-12 MHz), and complex computer processing to produce an image of internal organs and anatomy. As no ionizing radiation is employed, the technology is quite safe and is therefore frequently used in pregnancy and pediatrics. TRA performs general diagnostic, obstetrical and high risk OB (obstetrical) exams.

General diagnostic ultrasound is an imaging technology which uses sound waves (sonar) to obtain pictures of the inside of your body. It is primarily used to evaluate the pelvic region, abdomen, breast, testicles and thyroid glands.

Obstetrical ultrasound is used to obtain pictures and corresponding measurements to evaluate the anatomic growth and physiological characteristics of the fetus (unborn child). High risk OB ultrasound is also used to assess and monitor complex pregnancy and atypical fetal characteristics.

Who will perform and who will interpret my exam?

Your ultrasound exam will be performed by a registered diagnostic ultrasonographer who has the special training necessary to perform your exam. The images obtained during your exam will then be reviewed and interpreted by a radiologist (a physician) who then reports his/her findings to your physician.

All radiologists at TRA Medical Imaging are board certified by the American Board of Radiology. Additionally, TRA is an accredited site by the American College of Radiology for ultrasound imaging services for OB, gynecological, general, breast and image-guided biopsy.
