Hysterosonogram

Hysterosonography, or Sonohysterography, uses sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of a woman’s uterus to help diagnose unexplained vaginal bleeding. The exam is performed by inserting a vaginal ultrasound transducer into the vagina after you have emptied your bladder. A small amount of sterile saline will be inserted into the cavity of the uterus while the lining of the uterus is studied using both 2D and 3D imaging.

Hysterosonography is best performed one week after menstruation to avoid the risk of infection.
