Staff and Physicians
What Is a Radiologist?
A radiologist is a physician (medical doctor). After medical school, a radiologist completes a one-year internship
and a four-year residency in diagnostic radiology, the medical specialty which uses radiant energy (x-ray tubes,
ultrasound, MRI, etc.) in medical diagnosis and therapeutic procedures.
Following residency, most radiologists become board-certified by the American Board of Radiology. Some go directly
into practice. Others enter fellowship programs for additional training in a subspecialized area, such as neuroradiology,
nuclear medicine, mammography, pediatric and interventional radiology.
