How to Prepare for Your Procedure

When you schedule your appointment, you will receive preparation instructions and prescriptions for Xanax, analgesic cream, and thigh-high compression hose.

You will need a ride to and from the office due to the sedative.

Take the Xanax 1 hour before your arrival time. The analgesic cream should be applied to the leg 1 hour before your arrival time. Apply the cream from your knee to your groin on the inner thigh. To prevent your hand from becoming numb, wear a latex glove to apply the cream. Wrap your leg with plastic wrap when you are finished.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring the prescribed thigh-high compression hose with you. You will need to wear them following the procedure.

The Day of Your Procedure

This procedure is performed in our Interventional & Vascular Clinic, by a board certified interventional radiologist specializing in minimally invasive procedures. This procedure takes less than an hour to perform. An ultrasound is performed to map your vein. Then a local anestetic is applied and a thin fiber is inserted through a tiny entry point. Laser energy is delivered to seal the faulty vein.

Walking after this procedure is highly encouraged and normal activity can be resumed.
